WIND: Wind and Friends LP (SYRIN001)
Wind is a trio from Drammen, Norway with clear musical roots in the psychedelic rock, folk, blues and jazz of the sixties. The group was founded in 2008, and consists of Filip Ramberg, Martin van Houtum and Per Christian Berg, all of them in their early twenties.
In their raw, unpolished psychedelic sound, there are obvious references to many more or less known groups and artists from the last psychedelic age, as well as influences from both jazz and classical music. Wind have previously released a 7" single on Jansen Plateproduksjon in the summer of 2010 which was very well received.
Wind and Friends is the name of their first 12". It is a special beast indeed. The LP is 100% instrumental and features two old friends on saxophone and flute; Morten Smith Lien and Pål Stefan Brekke respectively. It was recorded in one take in a crazy jam during the christmas holidays in 2010. The intense, chaotic and raw psychedelic music is like a magic carpet woven by Hawkwind and Amon Duul and flown by John Coltrane. The young musicians aim very high in their uncomprimising improvisation, and explore modal scales and the possibilities of fusing psychedelic rock and free jazz.
